Is the iron painted?

You will notice that the pieces we sell are raw unfinished metal. We sell the raw material to you, because we find many customers wish to make their own finish, whether using a beautiful black patina, or finishing with a clear sealer or rust inhibitor. You can customize it to match your work.

Keep in mind, however, that this wrought iron is porous metal with a tendency to rust under certain weather conditions. It is recommended that all our bases be painted with a rust inhibiting primer, then painted to assure its beauty. If you wish to protect it but not paint it, there are also spray polyurethane coatings you can buy from any hardware store. Use it to apply a thin coat of clear protection, thus sealing your iron from the elements.

What type of backing should I use?

We recommend hardibacker or wonderboard as a suitable mosaic backing for outdoor projects--using a plywood backing in this instance will warp in the outdoor, especially in rainy or humid conditions.

Backerboard is easy to work with--it's thin enough to be scored and broken off cleanly with a carpet or utility knife over the edge of a table.

What other tools will I need to put together the backerboard to the base?

As mentioned previously, if you have purchased backerboard, all you will need is a utility knife, along with a tape measure, straight edge and pencil to measure, mark and cut your piece. The backing can then be glued into the table with Liquid Nails construction adhesive or similar product.

How long does the delivery take?

We usually need about 1-4 weeks to deliver, and is shipped via FedEx Ground or UPS Ground, although in most cases delivered sooner, depending on current demand. For larger multiple item orders, we can send your LTL freight for savings of up to 50% off. ( For example: one coffee table to the East coast may run up to $28. When a palette of six is sent to the same address, the individual shipping charges are $16 )
 

This table is not what I was looking for, Can I return it?

We would be happy to take it back if our iron is not what you are looking for. Although we do charge a 15% restocking fee.
